Thinklab Designer Series : Part 3 / Azlan Othman

Greetings people! Every week, we are posting our video interviews / share video snippets of designers that we have encountered since the beginning of the year, as we begin with those that were involved with our recent Design Conference Mini Series and KLDW 09. Some of them also made contribution to write on this blog. We thank you for your support as we are beginning to sense a change of evolution in the local design industry.

Azlan Othman is the Head of Design for Proton. He has previously worked with Lotus, before given the responsibility to lead the Proton in design styling. During the conference, being the last speaker, he delivered the future for the Proton as hopes for what may come in times of economic crisis and global warming. Young and ambitious, we will certainly hear more from him as his talents will help Proton to grow ahead in automotive industry globally. Below is a snippet of his talk and continued by his thoughts written below the video.

Enjoy!

In today’s challenging environment, it is clear the functions and disciplines of old will have to change. Adaptation to new technologies and methods should now not only be of interest, it is a must. Design is one of the disciplines which need to evolve itself at a surgical level and this is due to the nature of the business, which is best described as trend ownership. Designers of today must adapt to new ways of working and also in new ways of thinking. Design plays a critical role in the current economic climate and Designers need to prepare themselves for the future. This is ‘The Next’ as we move towards design sustainability and innovation.
